Anna Elston - addiction therapist with Castle Health

Anna Elston

Addiction Therapist, at United Kingdom

“I work with people who often appear to be coping on the outside, but know something isn’t quite working underneath. My approach is direct, compassionate, and grounded in both clinical training and lived experience.”

Anna Elston is an addiction counsellor and clinical supervisor, providing specialist addiction therapy online to clients across the UK and internationally.

Anna works with a wide range of addictions, including alcohol dependency, substance misuse, gambling, pornography, sex and love addiction, and other compulsive behaviours. She also supports partners and families affected by addiction, as well as professionals and executives managing high-pressure roles alongside complex behavioural patterns.

Anna has particular experience working with internationally mobile clients, including expatriates and Fulbright grantees, offering a consistent, confidential space that travels with them. Her work is especially suited to those in senior or visible roles, where privacy is essential, and difficulties are often kept hidden.

With a First Class Honours degree in Addictions Counselling from the University of Bath, Anna works integratively, drawing on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, and relapse prevention models. Her approach is trauma-informed and person-centred, allowing clients to explore both control and abstinence at a pace that feels manageable.

She specialises in working with ambivalence around change, recognising that many clients are not immediately ready for full abstinence. Rather than imposing a fixed model, Anna supports clients to understand patterns, test limits where appropriate, and move towards sustainable, self-directed recovery.

Anna also creates and delivers intensive outpatient (IOP) group programmes and aftercare support, combining structured psychoeducation with process-based group work to support long-term change beyond primary treatment.

Alongside her clinical work, Anna is a qualified group and individual clinical supervisor, supporting therapists and treatment teams across the UK and internationally. She was trained in the Seven-eyed therapeutic model by the highly acclaimed Robin and Joan Shohet.

Having maintained over two decades of continuous recovery, Anna brings both lived experience and professional insight to her work, offering a grounded and realistic perspective on change. Her clients value her direct, grounded and non-judgemental approach.

At Castle Health, Anna provides tailored addiction counselling for people seeking meaningful, lasting change, wherever they are in the world.
