Media and press enquiries

Need help with a story?

We see media and press enquiries part of the wider work of shifting how addiction is understood. Stigma is a barrier to recovery – the shame attached to it stops people reaching out. The more openly recovery is discussed, the easier it becomes for someone to take the first step.

That’s why Castle Health often works with journalists, researchers, broadcasters, and producers across Europe. We can act as a clinical voice for a piece on addiction, mental health, or recovery, or help with research into wider trends in the sector.

If you have a media and press enquiry, get in touch with our communications team and we’ll come back to you as quickly as we can.

Media spokespeople across the Castle Health network

If you have a media or press enquiry, and need a clinical or expert voice for a story, we can put you in touch with the right person from across our network. Castle Health spans three residential treatment clinics – Castle Craig in Scotland, Smarmore Castle in Ireland, and Beroendekliniken in Sweden – which means we can offer access to a broad range of specialists.

Our spokespeople include directors, consultant psychiatrists, addiction physicians, therapists, and recovery coaches. We can comment on a range of subjects, including:

  • Alcohol and drug addiction, including emerging substances
  • Behavioural addictions, including gambling, gaming, and cryptocurrency
  • Co-occurring mental health conditions
  • Treatment approaches, including residential rehab, aftercare, and continuing care
  • Wider policy questions around addiction, recovery, and access to treatment
  • Research and clinical developments in the addiction field

Our team will review your request, ask any clarifying questions, and put you in touch with the most appropriate spokesperson.

Interviews with patients

In some cases, for those reaching out with a media and press enquiry, we can arrange interviews with current or former patients. Patient confidentiality sits above everything else when we collaborate with media. Any filming, photography, or interviews need to be agreed with the clinical team in advance, and we cannot always guarantee that the identity of the person being interviewed can be shown. That decision rests with the individual.

All requests are reviewed across several team members, so we ask you to set out your request in writing with as much detail as possible. Please include:

  • A summary of the story being written
  • Where the story will be published, and the expected publication date
  • The format (print, broadcast, online, podcast)
  • What you would like from us specifically – interview, comment, footage, photography

All decisions about interviews with current or former patients are assessed on a discretionary, case-by-case basis.
