Richard De Val
Richard is a psychotherapist and addiction specialist with over a decade of experience across private practice and clinical settings in London and internationally. He’s supported individuals experiencing alcohol and cocaine use, gambling harms, burnout, anxiety, and patterns linked to pressure, identity, and high-performance environments.
He has experience delivering both individual and group interventions, relapse prevention work, risk assessment, and psychologically informed treatment planning. Alongside private practice, he’s worked with professionals, creatives, senior executives, and public-facing individuals seeking discreet support around addiction, mental health, and performance.
His approach integrates harm reduction and abstinence-based models, utilising Existential Psychotherapy, evidence-informed interventions, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness, and behavioural approaches. He is also currently training in Lacanian Psychoanalysis.
Richard De Val specialises in the following
Relapse
Helping you recover upon the return to substance misuse or old unhealthy behaviours after a period of sobriety or improvement.
Mindfulness (MBT)
Mindfulness-based therapy (MBT) blends traditional cognitive therapy with mindfulness practices like meditation, breathing exercises, and present-moment awareness, primarily to treat depression and reduce anxiety.
Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT)
Is a form of behavioural and mindfulness-based therapy that helps individuals accept difficult thoughts and emotions rather than fighting them. The core goal is to build "psychological flexibility" and commit to actions that align with your personal values.
Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy – often called "talk therapy" – is a collaborative treatment where you work with a trained mental health professional to identify and change troubling emotions, thoughts, and behaviours.
