Phil Jackman - BACP registered addiction therapist with Castle Health

Phil Jackman

Addiction Therapist, at United Kingdom

“At the heart of my work is a belief that addictive behaviours are not the problem itself, but a meaningful response to deeper pain, and that with the right support, those patterns can be understood, softened, and ultimately changed.”

Phil Jackman is a trauma-informed psychotherapist with extensive experience supporting people through addiction and recovery in both residential and outpatient settings. He holds a Master’s degree in psychotherapy and is a registered member of the BACP.

Phil’s approach is grounded in the understanding that addictive behaviours often develop as responses to distress, trauma, and unmet emotional needs. Rather than treating addiction in isolation, he works to explore the underlying patterns that sustain cycles of substance use and compulsive behaviour, drawing on psychodynamic, relational, and trauma-informed models to tailor the work to each person.

He has supported patients with alcohol and substance use, compulsive sexual behaviours, and other process addictions, as well as co-occurring difficulties including anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship challenges. Phil also brings personal lived experience of recovery to his practice, which deepens his empathy and understanding of the challenges involved.

Patients often describe Phil as warm, approachable, and thoughtful, with an ability to balance gentle challenge with genuine empathy. He works at a pace that feels manageable, recognising that change in recovery is rarely linear, and places real emphasis on creating a non-judgmental space where people feel safe to speak honestly. At the heart of his practice is a belief in every person’s capacity to move beyond survival strategies towards a more connected way of living.
