José is a Counsellor and Psychotherapist holding an MSc in Counselling, alongside several specialist qualifications in Addiction Counselling. 

Since 2003, he has worked extensively in the field of addiction and associated disorders, developing broad experience in treating compulsive behaviours, mental health conditions, and substance use disorders.

Throughout his career, José has primarily worked within leading residential treatment settings, progressing through roles including Counsellor, Senior Counsellor, Head Therapist, and Clinical Manager. 

In these positions, he has led multidisciplinary clinical teams and supported individuals over extended periods, enabling meaningful, long-term recovery and sustainable personal change.

As an integrative therapist, José draws on a range of evidence-based therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Relapse Prevention, Psychodynamic Therapy, Systemic approaches, and Gestalt Therapy. 

His work includes individual therapy, group facilitation, psychoeducational workshops, clinical supervision, training, and service leadership.

José is fluent in English, Portuguese, French, and Spanish. Beyond his clinical work, he maintains a strong interest in community engagement, politics, and sport.
